1:20 p.m.: We're going to get to know Taylor Martinez pretty quick – whether he likes it or not. The redshirt freshman quarterback, Nebraska's starter after Saturday night, did his first set of interviews with the Nebraska media after the 49-10 NU win.
Let's just say it was probably more difficult than the game. Martinez, who turns 20 next week, appeared uncomfortable and unsure of what to say. Surely, it's not easy to face a throng of cameras and unfamiliar faces. He'd not participated in any interviews before Saturday, per NU rules for players who have not appeared in a game.
Martinez had to stand at a podium and answer questions before a large gathering. Most freshmen get to break in with one or two reporters before taking the big stage later, if ever.
That's not reality for the first freshman ever to start a season-opening game at Nebraska.
You'll hear and read lots more about Martinez in the days to come.
Also as a result of the opening game, expect to learn more this week about the Huskers' new cast of young offensive linemen – freshmen Andrew Rodriguez, Jeremiah Sirles and Brent Qvale.
The defense, after Bo Pelini's harsh words, is sure to endure some scrutiny, too, before Idaho visits Saturday.
And don't forget who plays quarterback for the Vandals – North Platte (Neb.) High School graduate Nathan Enderle. He'll get plenty of pub around here this week, too. Enderle, a senior, four-year starter, turned down a late scholarship offer from the Huskers in 2006 after Josh Freeman decommitted from the NU recruiting class.
Should be another interesting week.
